Giving Thanks
I’ve thought about enumerating the various things I can give thanks for and it’s a pretty big list, all things considered. But to write it out, to tally it out, to be some sort of spiritual accountant, carefully weighing that things are important and by implication what things are not feels out of place this year. It smells of overthinking. In the end, any day above ground is a good one, so lets leave it at thank.

Aunt Denise
My aunt Denise had a big bed on the op floor of her 3 story house. It was an old style bed, with mahogany wood, set high off the floor with thick, firm mattresses. She covered the top with many pillows and high quality sheets, the blankets seemingly handmade, they were so soft and beautiful.
I walked into her bedroom today and the bed was gone. There were many other things in the room, artifacts of her, art work from the walls, tools for beading, a small refrigerator where her medicine was kept. All of these things are still there, pushed aside or hastily moved out of the way, but still there, only needing someone to put them back in their proper place. In the meantime, it looks as though the heart of the room has been torn out, leaving a gapping hole in midst of fine oak furniture, custom made jewelry and new hardwood floors. It is startling to notice this, to have this image of someone in your head, alive and smiling, right here in this very room and now her throne and herself is gone, unceremoniously, but carefully ripped out so as not to startle the edges of all the stuff in the room and leaving ashes of memories.

oh yeah
…that’s right, I have a blog!
Been busy obviously, mostly with work and a few side projects. More details to come.
It’s hot here in Savannah, nothing new for August. Sometimes the rain comes and things cool off for bit, but it never lasts. Going about your day you alternate between cooking outside and freezing inside, as people and businesses usually have their AC cranked up high.
Today is also my 36th birthday. It’s an interesting number, according to Wikipedia:
Not to shabby, eh?
What are my plans today? Took the day off from work, made no definite plans though. Birthdays are good days for aimless wandering.

- 36 is the atomic number of Krypton (Greek for hidden thing or one), an gas used in lighting and photography.
- According to Jewish tradition, in every generation there are 36 righteous people (the “Lamed Vav Tzadikim”) in whose merit the world continues to exist.
- In the year 36 AD Emperor Kuang Wu Ti of China defeated the last of the warlords and reunited the country.
- 36 is the number of degrees in the angle of all 5 tips in a perfect star.

Reassuring things from Taco Hell
Tonight I went to dinner with the wife and daughter at Taco Bell. They had a craving you see, and sometimes when the women folk have their cravings you just go along. It makes life easier.
While there, I saw a sign, one that put many fears to rest. It said:
We wash AND Santize our hands.
Don’t you feel better now?

You don’t have to show us everything
Especially first thing in the morning. These are the quiet times, when a person is still getting themselves together and slowly easing themselves into reality. We don’t need to see pictures of the hanging of Saddam Hussein first thing in the goddamn morning.
A simple, “Hey, there’s some messed up pictures at this link, clink if you want to see them”, would be very nice or at the least, very polite, if you don’t want to see pictures of death first thing in the morning.

just christmas
Got a new cellphone from the lovely wife, a Z525, very sexy. Camera, Video, flipphone, bluetooth, color display and all that. I love it!
‘cept for the interface. Things have changed since my clunky Nokia model (6500 something? Can’t remember and it’s lost now). Before it was phone with a some other features tacked on, like an address book and alarms and what. Now a cell phone is device to sell you more stuff that happens to also be a phone. Seriously, the menu has an item called Cingular Mall. I can buy ringtones, games, applications, and lord knows what else, easily doubling the phone bill.
Still the organizer is nice and the way it keeps track of your appointments is useful. There’s a ton of features on it that I’ll probably never use, but the camera and video is awesome and I’m already maxing out my media package. Looks like it’s time to get that blue-tooth card so I can download video as opposed to emailing to myself.
Sweet Christmas!

mmmm, elections
Yay, yay it’s election day here in the states, though I’m sick as a dog. Evidently there is only so much hot sauce my body can stand, so it was a half day of work and then feet up on the couch.
I don’t have much to say about the elections other than I hope Democrats win SOMETHING, just so the craziness gets slowed down. And to all these people saying there’s do difference between either party, I betcha if Al Gore had been President we would not have been in Iraq. Anyone suggesting it would have been mocked outta (insert your own personal super holy space here).
Oh, and Sara Robinson has a nice (and long!) piece on liberalism and the vision thing. A bit flowery and dramatic at times, but does a good job of laying out where the politics of this country have been and maybe where they can go.
