Time Magazine has their photos of the year up, but they're in two categories this year (don't know if they did this last year),
Reader picks and
Editor picks.

The difference in subject matter is startling. The viewer's choice is much more upbeat. Not surprising, but the side by side comparsion is amazing, as if the reader's and editor's are living in two separate worlds.
